The Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers Earn Quality Recognition
The Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers Medical Oncology offices recently renewed their Patient-Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP) level 3 (highest) recognition and earned their Oncology Medical Home recognition for the first time at 5 locations including Adrian, Bowling Green, Maumee, Monroe and Toledo.
These recognitions come from the National Center for Quality Assurance (NCQA), which accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and manages the evolution of HEDIS®, the performance measurement tool used by more than 90 percent of the nation’s health plans.
The Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers Medical Oncology offices are among the first practices to earn the Oncology Medical Home recognition. For example:
- The Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers in Adrian and Monroe are the first practices in the state of Michigan to receive the Oncology Medical Home recognition.
- In the state of Ohio, The Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers is the second practice to receive this recognition.
- Only 13 other oncology practice groups in the nation have earned the Oncology Medical Home recognition.
“We are incredibly proud of the recognition our cancer centers have received,” said Henry Naddaf, M.D., the President of the Toledo Clinic. “Most importantly, it shows our patients that they can expect patient-centered care and clinical quality at The Toledo Clinic.”
Practices that have earned NCQA Oncology Medical Home Recognition have undergone a rigorous review of its capabilities and have proven their commitment to delivering timely whole-person, evidence-based care. They have demonstrated their support of patients through patient and caregiver-focused care management and continuous quality improvement.
Scientific evidence shows that Oncology Medical Homes save money by reducing hospital and emergency department visits, mitigating health disparities, and improving patient outcomes. Research has shown that Oncology Medical Homes have reduced ER visits by 68%, decrease length of stay for admitted patients by 21% and led to an overall cost savings of $1 million per physician annually.
“NCQA Patient-Centered Specialty Practice Recognition distinguishes practices that communicate, collaborate and integrate care in ways that patients want and that improve quality,” said NCQA President Margaret E. O’Kane. “I commend the team at The Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers for its achievement, and for its commitment to continuous improvement.”
The Toledo Clinic Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Pediatric Medicine offices received NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition in 2017, which is a similar achievement for primary care practices.
The Toledo Clinic is a multi-specialty group practice, consisting of over 270 independent physicians and associated healthcare professionals, practicing in 40 medical and surgical specialties, at more than 60 locations, across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
